img_4872The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.

My Thoughts

I didn’t really not what to expect from a book about a boy and a monster, but I was blow away! I was crying at the end and it was just so good. This book is about a boy who’s mom is suffering from illness (possibly cancer). He never gets punished for anything since her illness came back. He just wants it to be all over, but he doesn’t want her to go. He feels so guilty that the monster comes walking to tell him stories and make him understand that he is not wrong for thinking that way. He wanted her pain to end and go on with life. The monster helps him understand this and he can finally let go of his mother. I Bought the movie shortly after reading and i fell in love with both. They were both so amazing and so heart wrenching. I recommend this one over all the rest on this list. if you have to pick one, this is it.
